About

The Permaculture Fair Oaks mission is to promote community resiliency, food & future security and abundance through permaculture education and demonstration.

We believe healthy communities begin with healthy soil, clean water, and equitable access to food, knowledge, and opportunity.

A resilient community starts with local food security.

Our Core Values

  • Regenerating the land while reducing carbon emissions
  • Educating through doing, empowering people with practical, low-cost skills
  • Strengthening community connections through shared work and shared harvest
  • Honoring diversity in both ecosystems and human experience

Our Programs and Services

The No Barking Food Forest: A public demonstration site in Fair Oaks where community members can learn and participate in food forest maintenance, pollinator care, composting, and water-wise gardening.

Educational Events & Workshops: We host hands-on workshops on topics such as permaculture design, composting, rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse, plant propagation, food preservation, beekeeping and pollinator habitat creation.

Volunteer & Youth Engagement: Our members — including teens, elders, and families — regularly gather to tend the food forest, learn regenerative practices, and participate in garden stewardship.

Community Partnerships: We work with schools, local nonprofits, and civic groups to broaden our impact and reach under-resourced neighborhoods in the greater Sacramento area.

Our geographic focus includes Fair Oaks, Orangevale, and the surrounding Sacramento region. Our participants are diverse in age, income, and background. We intentionally create a welcoming space for all, including low-income families, renters, BIPOC community members, and people newer to growing food or participating in environmental work.
